HP Slate 7 HD 3400US - Review

So I got a tablet for my birthday and I have to say that I am quite impressed by it. I got the HP Slate 7 HD with Beats Audio. Now right out of the box you can feel the quality of this tab. Its made of industrial plastic and feels good in the hand. It does not feel cheaply made. One of the nice features is that it has a 2mp front facing cam and a 5mp rear facing cam.   Now as soon as I powered it on, I was instantly taken to the user registration page and as soon as I filled out all the details I was then registered with HP with just a push of a button. So that was really nice. Now I have WiFi at home and most of the places that I go have free WiFi but what is uber amazing about this tab is that it comes with free 4g WiFi for life through T-Mobile. Now 2 draw backs to this amazing perk, 1.) you are limited to 200mb per month and 2.) Google is in talks with T-Mobile about possibly buying the cell phone company either before or after they acquire Dish Network. So with that in play who knows how long 'free for life' really is. The speed of the HP Slate is much faster than my Nook and is slightly less heavy. One of the main selling features for me was the duel camera's and the free wifi. The other selling feature was the fact that it was only a few more more dollars I was able to get the 16gb model. The 8gb was $129 and the 16gb was like $179. The display is another amazing feature of this tab. Unlike some other tablets that can sometimes get dark or super bright depending on the angle you hold it. The HP Slate 7 doesn't do that. You have good viewing at any angle. Of course holding it at a 35-60 degree angle is still the best for viewing, you could lay it flat and share the view with someone next to you. Now for the downsides....the buttons! The volume up/down are on the back of the tab on the curve and the same for the power button. And they are located only 1' from each other on the same side. So if you were taking a picture or video you could easily shut your tab off by pressing and holding the power button thinking you were using the volume up button to zoom. The other thing that I really don't care for is the fact that there is no flash or image stabilizer for the cameras. And though it says that it has Beats Audio, the speakers (which are located at the bottom of the device) are not powerful at all and in some cases can not be heard very well. But above and beyond those few issues, I have to give this tab 7.5 out of 10 stars. I give this based on no flash or stabilizer and poor sound, and the button locations.
