That's right folks, Microsoft has allowed Amazon to create an Alexa app for Windows 10. You can find it in the Windows Store by clicking on the icon in the taskbar.
So what does this mean for Cortana? Well, I honestly have never used Cortana, and don't ever plan on using her because any searches done are done through Bing, and you can not select which search engine to use.
But I assume if there are more people out there like me, that Microsoft is going to see an influx of people downloading this app.
Now you know that I am a HUGE fan of Alexa. But the draw back to having it on PC is that you cant use Wake Words to activate her. You also have to have the program running, and have to push CTRL+ SHIFT + A in order to get Alexa to respond to you. I dont like this one single bit. I would like for the Wake Word to be a function supported by PC. Now there are rumors that Alexa can be downloaded on a Mac, however, I am not 100% sure if this is a real thing or not.
You can still control everything from your computer, and make adjustments to your settings and things from the PC App. However, you can not group the PC into the Everywhere Group in order to play music. This is another disadvantage. But when you open the Alexa app on your phone, it shows your PC as "Alexa app for PC", so for now I think that Amazon is going to keep it lacking in features so that consumers are forced to buy a standalone Echo device.
