Ok so any of you who know me know that I love free things, or the closer to free the better. I especially love to have good things that work for a lot of different stuff. Like this app that I came across called Talkatone.
Talkatone is a free VOIP (internet phone) that you can download on your tablet, cell phone, iPod/iPad. As long as the device has a mic you can pretty much install it. When you download the app and get it all setup you are given the option of choosing a real working phone number based on your area code.
You set up a profile and then boom you are ready to go. The number that you are provided with gives you the ability to talk and text and works completely free and is yours to keep as long as it is active at least once or twice in a 30 day period. After that they reclaim your number and you have to reset everything.
You can use it as your regular phone but only as long as you are connected via WiFi. I have it installed on an old Samsung Galaxy S3, so now I am routing all of my business calls through that number. It really is pretty revolutionary, and the fact that it is truly free (for the most part) makes it really handy.
However, there are some paid features like international calling for $12.99USD a month, and $9.99 to remove ad's. The $9,99 Ad removal is a one time fee and its for life. It doesn't say (or at least anywhere within the app) if you are to purchase this feature that it keep your number from ever being reclaimed.
