Amazon Prime for only $5.99

Amazon just announced that they will be offering their Prime memberships for only $5.99 a month for persons on State Aid that have an EBT (Electronic Benefits Transfer) Card. Now this offer once signed up is only good for four (4) years. This comes as a huge shock to most. But after Walmart bought out Jet.com Amazon had to up the game. Now I know its all just a numbers thing and that they are only doing it for a short period of time, but I am happy to see the direction this is going. Because now that should give the green light to other companies, to offer their products and services to Low Income families. With the amazing benefits that Prime has, this really could be a game changer, if all of Prime is available to these folks.

They could concevably cut out cable/tv bills by using Prime Movies and TV, saving the average household $60 a month. Also if they are living in a rural area, and lack transportation, Free Prime shipping could be the god send that Low Income families needed. And depending on if Amazon Fresh or Now is included, families can have their groceries or other needed supplies delivered within hours of ordering. The added benefit of Amazon Dash Buttons for elderly folks coupled with aforementioned services, means that our senior community could once again order their own groceries, and have it delivered to them, when they are no longer able to leave the home, or need a last minute something for the grandchildren.

I believe that Prime should be offered at this rate for longer than 4 years, but it is a start in the right direction and should the profits go up from there, as Im sure they will, that Amazon may extend the time in which you can be eligible for that pricing.  Now that Amazon has pioneered the way, I am sure that other places like Walmart may follow suit. We shall see.
