As any painter will tell you, having a palette is essential when painting. Be it wooden one, plastic, or even cardboard. Having one invokes a feeling of painting with the greats like Michelangelo, Rembrandt, or Van Gogh. This palette is really amazing for beginners. The brushes are good for what you are getting but are by no means "professional" quality.
I paint with acrylics, and so for the type and style of painting that I do, these brushes work just fine. I would however, recommend treating this palette with some oil first before using it. Something like Linseed, or Walnut will give it a good "seasoning" and make it easier for you to clean and will help keep the paint from really seeping into the wood grain.
Here is a little painting I did with the brushes and the palette. So like I said they are good for having extra brushes, or for first time painters, but the bristles can come off in your painting if you are to rough with them.
But if you have an aspiring artist, or are looking for a new set of brushes and a palette then this is going to be the perfect fit.
