MoviePass

If you have not heard of MoviePass then you are missing out on one of the best deals around. MoviePass is like Netflix but for going to the movies. You pay a monthly subscription of either $7.99 or $9.99 a month and you can go see any movie you want. There are a few draw backs however. With the $7.99 membership you only get to see 4 movies a month. With the $9.99 membership you get to see a movie a day. The other drawback that is going to be that you can not watch Real 3D or Imax movies. However with an email that was sent out 6/24/18 there are a lot of changes in the works for this amazing service, more on this later.

At first when I had learned about MoviePass, I was super happy, because going to the movies is one of my all time favorite things to do. And the other thing was that it was so cheap. I thought that it might be a scam. But after looking at the reviews, and the dates of the reviews and having seen that the company had been around for awhile I was confident in starting my subscription. I chose the $9.99 one because it seemed like the better value. That and I love going to the movies.
The whole experience is really amazing. You download an app to your phone (both android and iphone) and then once you go through the whole setup process you then have to wait about a week to get your MoviePass debit card in the mail.

Once you get the debit card, you check into the theater that you want to see the movie at (the theater must accept e-tickets like Fandango and things like that. Regal Cinemas, and AMC Theaters accept these) on the MoviePass app and the money is automatically issued to your card. Now you need to be at the theater to check in, and I think you can do so up to 30 minutes before the movie starts. I know I did this with Jurassic Park: Lost Kingdom. My movie was at 7:15pm and I checked in at 6:30pm when I pulled into the parking lot, and was able to pay for my movie using the card.

As mentioned above, MoviePass is going to be rolling out some new features and upgrades. Below is the email that I got:

A Message To Our Members:

The revolution is happening now, and it is all thanks to you. In less than a year, three million pioneers joined us on our journey to see more great movies at an unbeatable price. And we want to thank you, our community, for your steadfast support of our company and growth.

In the spirit of innovation and growth, we are now announcing the next phase in the evolution of our product: Demand Pricing.

In the coming weeks, we will roll out three different upgrades to our base $9.95 service for our members.

Bring-A-Guest: MoviePass members will be able to purchase extra tickets to a showing of a movie right through the MoviePass app, so that you can seamlessly reserve seats for you and your friends (at e-ticketing partner theaters) to watch a film even if they aren’t MoviePass subscribers. As a benefit, if your friend signs up for MoviePass within 24 hours, we’ll refund the entire cost of the ticket!

Peak Pricing: MoviePass is committed to maintaining our low monthly price as we continue to grow rapidly. Rather than raise our prices or limit viewings, our plan has been to develop a new variable pricing system based on the demand for particular showtimes. Under this plan, if the combination of demand for a title, date or part of day is higher, subscribers may be asked to pay a small additional fee depending on the level of demand. You can avoid this peak surcharge by choosing an alternative date or film. We will also soon give subscribers one “peak pass” per month, allowing them to waive a Peak Price surcharge once per month. Annual and Quarterly subscribers will not incur peak pricing until their current subscription term ends and then renews.

Premium Showings: MoviePass members on any plan will soon be able to access RealD 3D, IMAX 2D or 3D, and other Premium Large Format showings of any film for an additional upgrade fee.

These features are being tested currently and will slowly roll out to all our members over the next several weeks.

Our aim is to create the most flexible and cost-efficient product, so that we don’t have to simply raise the price on the subscription. We appreciate your flexibility as we evolve our service to keep MoviePass at a low cost. We can’t express how much we value all of you for being part of that vision.

Thank you.

Sincerely,
The MoviePass Team

So you see with the new changes coming up like Bring-a-guest, its really going to make using this service really amazing. Now I don't as of yet know what the upgrade fees are going to be, but I can not imagine that its going to be much over what they already charge for their current subscription fees. Im estimating that it will be under $15 a month for the more "premium" membership.

I really recommend this service if you are a movie buff and love going out to the movies a lot. So far its paid off for me just having seen 3 movies this month. I typically pay about $14 per movie (because I like seeing them in 3D) but just to try the service out and watching them in traditional 2D it has been worth it.

Download your MoviePass app now and start your movie going adventures.
