Well the time has come that I have to say goodbye to MoviePass. Today I cancelled my membership. Their recent decision to roll out "Surge Pricing" is bullshit. I wanted to go see Hotel Transylvania 3 and the entire day is "surged" meaning that I have to pay $4.75-$6.75 if I wanted to watch a movie today or tomorrow. The "greatest" part about this is that the theater opens at 11 and the first showing is at 11:45am and its surge priced. WHAT THE FUCK was I paying a subscription for if im not able to see a movie when I want to watch it. That would be like Netflix saying you couldn't watch a movie at the time you wanted without paying an additional fee.
So what I thought was going to be a great service, and money saver, turns out to be a major poop sandwich. I will admit that the couple of times that I was able to use the service before they started the surge charging was amazing. I loved being able to just go to the movies on a whim and see anything that I wanted to, any time I wanted to.
What really kind of sealed the deal was that this last Thursday they "ran out of funds to cover peoples tickets" - USA Today And then me trying to go see a family movie today, and going to be charged $4.60 over ticket price?
So yeah, here's to ya MoviePass. If you are still in business in a few months I may try you all back out again. Hopefully by then you have your shit figured out and have removed the stupid surge charge. When I went to cancel my subscription they wanted to know why. I told them in the 250 characters they gave me.
