When I was first approached by Kangaroo, the simply wanted me to test out their service and device and then report back to them how my experience was.
Well I am here to tell you that this is one of the easiest things I have ever done, the hardest part was remembering my home network password.
They sent me a motion sensor to test out and see how I liked it. Well I was able to get the motion sensor set up in less than 5 minutes, once I had created my profile and entered in personal information. Some of the personal information you are asked to put in is things like your address, if you have animals, cell phone number, registered guests, and any personal information you might want emergency responders to know about.
The motion sensor is about the size of a candy bar. To mount it, there is a pre-installed sticky pad. You remove the protective cover, slap it to your wall, and you are good to go. The only other thing you need to do, is make sure that if you have any pets, is to make sure that the sensor is up high enough (roughly about 4ft or more) and not behind any doors or pointing at windows.
I placed my sensor next to my front door. So that way the second anyone walks in, it automatically senses them and sends me an app alert and then a text message. Everything with this system is app based. So as long as you have your phone or a tablet, you can arm and disarm the Kangaroo.
Now you may be thinking, "home security systems are expensive though aren't they?" Not with Kangaroo the most basic Self Monitoring is free, and Premium Monitoring for $9.00 a month or $60 a year.
And the other great thing is that you get a kick back on homeowners insurance. I am not sure if you get a renters insurance discount, I would assume that you would/should. Also at the time of writing this, you get a 100 day free trial to see how well their system works. Alexa (Amazon Echo) is not up and running right now, but I have been told by the staff that it should be fully enabled by the end of
October. So this is going to add a whole new dimension of functionality to this already amazing home security system.I know that I already feel safer leaving my home for long periods of time, knowing that my home is being monitored by Kangaroo. I can not wait for the added Alexa tie in, and for them to launch the rest of their products. This is one device and company to keep your eyes on as they begin to blaze a new path in home security.
