I just recently went on a trip to Portland to see some family. And while I was there I looked for rooms in the area and came across the Chestnut Tree Inn. Now based on the price, I thought that I would l check it out.
Now mind you this part of Portland is both up and coming and a bit of old neighborhood too. So I really wasn't sure as what to expect. First of all for a 2 Queen no smoking room it was $82.63 after taxes (which I didnt know that Oregon paid taxes on like ANYTHING).
Next there was a $100 deposit on rooms...ok not to horrible i guess. So after getting all checked in and getting into my room. I was expecting it to be nice. Well it was, but upon further investigation, there were "mysterious" stains. Burn marks, what I assume was blood, and a few other questionable things through out the room.
Though being in an older "convert" neighborhood, you have both the good and the bad when it comes to the area like I said before. You are really close to Mall 205 which has a bunch of fun shops and bars and restaurants and things right there. But the neighborhood behind the motel is more sketchy.
I felt safe there, but i'm not really to sure that I would have walked the streets by myself.
My overall rating of this place I would give it a 3 out of 5 stars. The reason that I didnt give it the full 5 is because of the stains around the room. The room itself was "nice" and had no bad odor. And the other reason was the water pressure was really lacking. That and the Wifi was spotty. It wasnt fast, but it got the job done (at home my net is 50mbps so im a bit spoiled). Over all though if you are looking for a place to stay with a lot of night life options then you are going to like it. I would say that its a good step up from a Motel 6 but not as good as say a Hilton.
